The word 'Tajweed' linguistically means 'betterment' or 'making something beautiful'. In Islamic terminology, it refers to the science of giving every letter of the Quran its rights and dues from its authentic articulation point (Makhraj) and inherent characteristics (Sifat).

Allah (SWT) commands in Surah Al-Muzzammil: 'And recite the Quran with measured recitation' (Quran 73:4). Applying Tajweed is not just an aesthetic enhancement—it is an act of devotion.

Preserving the True Meaning of the Quran

Unlike English, subtle differences in Arabic pronunciation drastically change the meaning of words. For example, pronouncing 'Qalb' (قَلب) with a deep 'Qaaf' means 'Heart', but pronouncing it with a light 'Kaaf' as 'Kalb' (كَلب) means 'Dog'.

Learning Tajweed protects the reader from making major errors (Lahn Jali) that alter the sacred meanings of Allah's revelation.
